Three-Period Lesson

The Three-Period Lesson is used to introduce information to the child.

Period 1:  "This is a                 ."  Generally the child will repeat the information given.
Period 2:  "Show me the                 ."  The child points to the desired object.
Period 3:  "What is this?"  The child answers verbally, naming the object.

The three periods do not need to all be presented in the same day.

If the child makes a mistake in Period 2 or 3, simply restate Period 1 and ask again.  Be positive in your interaction.   You may stop the lesson at any time, particularly if he is becoming frustrated after giving an incorrect answer.  You know your child best - be intuitive.

Be watchful for signs of fatigue from the child.  When you sense fatigue or the child asks to stop, stop right away and thank him for his time and attention.  Let him know that you are looking forward to working with him again in the future.
