Constructive Triangles

Constructive Triangles

Objective:  The Constructive Triangles visually teach the child to see how triangles make other shapes and recognize the whole as a sum of its parts.

Ages: 3 - 5
Control of Error:  The dark black lines on each triangle guide the child to match only the appropriate sides together.

Presentation:  Roll out a rug and select the Constructive Triangles from the shelf.  Remove one set of triangles from the box.  Match the triangles by putting the heavy black lines together.  The triangles form a new shape.  Repeat the process with other sets of triangles.  Return the triangles to the box and place it on the shelf.  Put away the rug.

Extension:  Name the triangles and the new shapes created:  right angled isosceles triangle, equilateral triangle, parallelogram, etc.

Extension 2:  The child can draw the shapes in a copy book and write their names.

Creating the Work:
Print the Constructive Triangles file, trim.  Laminate if desired.  The triangles may also be mounted to foam board.
