Polestar Private School
is dedicated to
furthering the cause of conscientious education in the home and small
school setting. Our mission
is to facilitate the education of children and youth through the
education of the parent and child and providing quality resources.
We do this through three methods: hands-on classes,
material making nights, and this website.
Classes and lectures consist of a demonstration of a selection of
Montessori materials and a look at the practical application of the
methodology in your home. The selected works are based on
the needs of the host family/organization. Classes are typically
1 1/2 days long and give the participants the opportunity to actually
work with the material and practice presenting it.
Material making nights occur every third Tuesday of the month at
7:00 p.m. at the San Juan County Public Library, Monticello Branch.
The meeting is free and open to the public. Bring your
current project to work on or you may come and work on the Polestar
project for the evening. (Materials fees may apply if you choose
to do the Polestar project.)
Michelle Harkey is a wife and mother to five children. She worked
in a private Montessori school in Arizona while her daughter attended
classes at the school. After three years spent learning the
method from some fantastic instructors, personnel changes at the school
and her daughter's responsiveness to a more personalized approach
convinced Michelle to began homeschooling her children using
Montessori Method and Thomas Jefferson Education.
